Blog Response Question #2

After viewing the film "Is America #1?" Please answer the following questions by leaving a comment after this post. Please answer in the 1, 2, 3, 4 format.

1. Is America really #1?
2. What is America the best in the world at? (Grammar teachers shudder)
3. What are our weaknesses?
4. Are our schools #1?
5. What can be done to improve our country? (Pick a specific topic and run with it. Give ideas, please.)

I expect this to be answered for Reds 1 and 2 by the end of Thursday. Gold Days TBA.

Please take your time to give a well-thought out position.

1. America is #1 because we have more income and a better way to go from poor to medium or rich.
2. We are the best at providing a way to become unpoor.
3. We need to work on showing the way to others, and peacefully acting on things.
4. Our schools are 1# because our schools welcome everyone and are well provided for
5. If we helped one another, didn't litter, those would help make our country better.

Amanda, what does it mean to be "unpoor?" Also, is littering really high on the list of importance?

Joe, If we are a "wel"-educated people.......what is a "thang?"

Coty, please tell me what the Native Americans would do a better job of running the country than our current leaders. I'm not saying they couldn't.........just want to know why you think they would.

I'm glad you two actually did the assignment and replied!

1.We are number one because we have strong support from most of our people.
2.America is best at finding ways to avoid getting into important issues that don't help us directly.
3.We need to work on getting everyone at a level of income so they can support themselves without government help. like not sending jobs overseas.
4.Our schools are number 1 because they get a decent amount of support but they are declining because our kids are taking guns to school and trying to kill their classmates and teachers.
5.If we could get people to stop believing that violence is the right answer to their problems then we could be a lot better off.

coty i think you have a point about the native americans. i mean if they hadn't been pushed out of their home-land then there would probably be a lot more people who were trustworthy running this government instead of the backstabbers we have right now. it would be a more truthful government and that wouldn't be as bad as everyone thinks it would.

2. Allowing people to seek out there dreams.
3. Expecting the government to do everything for it people.
4. Our school system isn’t perfect but allow any willing person to learn.
5. It would help if people had more expansions for their kids. Acknowledge that they are the future.

1. Its a matter of oponion. I've never lived anywhere else so I can't really say.
2. We are pretty good at being overweight. Many people in our country enjoy eating fast food and being lazy which causes an obesity problem. It might not be a great thing to be good at, but its sadly true.
3. Welfare is a weakness in America. Anyone can be on welfare, which provides even more of a reason for people to be lazy and not work. The sub gave the example of a single mother from Mexico crossing the border and having her child at a hospital in the U.S. From then on, she can return to Mexico but the government still sends her welfare checks to help support the child. How does that work?
4. I've only attended school in Columbus, Kansas, so I won't be a very good judge at that question either. However, we have had many foreign exchange students attend CUHS and we seem to be pretty evenly matched, education wise, with them.
5. Get people involved in their government. That doesn't mean run for President, but vote and participate in elections and issues concerning the country you live in.

1. I would like to believe that America is number one, but in reality I wouldn't know. I have only lived in America and I haven't experienced other cultures.

2. America is best at allowing everyone an equal opportunity to achieve success.

3.Our weakness is that we try and protect everyone and America just can't do that.

4. Our schools are not number one. Since I have been in high school every exchange student has been at a higher level than what we are. It is because they focus only on academics.

5. Our country can be improved by allowing free medical care and taking care of the poor and homeless.

1. America's #1 because we do the best in the world for helping people have a better life, and everybody can come here, we're not closed borders.
2. We are the best at keeping the best democratic system-, providing unbelievable freedom, even to critisize your own gov't,-functioning from generation to generation.
3. MANY, but we continue to work on them. Lack of value on intact functional families, a great amt. of violence available to kids through tv and games, etc.
4. Of course they are. Unlike some other countries, everyone in our country gets at least a basic education to prepare them for success. Unfortunatly, our public schools have taken a big dive downward thanx to the no child left behind act. Stupid stupid stupid.
5. Honestly? The churches of America need to get off their lazy buts, figure out what hipicrits are and change, start to help people and show them that Christ really cares about people. LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Carry each others burdens. Consider others better than yourself. Be willing to go a little out of your way to help someone else, without anything in return. To really care about others. That is what America needs.
